We are just stunned with the number of signatures over the past few days. Not even a week ago, we had 800, and the count now stands at over 2100! I know we've made it now, because "Project Fiver" is now returning results on Google! Melissa is so floored by this, she has been struggling to find words to thank people. I've been taking dictation for her LiveJournal, and she should have completed a thank-you post to all of you soon.
My thanks go out to the DragonCon and Anime Weekend Atlanta communities, where Melissa has worked for the past few years. These people are a great family, and they have always taken care of us. Special thanks go to Brian Richardson of DragonConTV and "What The Cast" for plugging PROJECT FIVER on this week's Podcast amidst your usual humor and geekery. You guys are great!
A little more info on ALS:
There is currently no cure, and only one drug is proven to have any effect- Riluzole (Rilutek) - and that only slows down the process and adds about 3-4 months to the lifespan if taken daily. She is taking this, and is participating in a Clinical Drug Trial for a new medicine that might also slow the progress of the disease. We have our fingers crossed, but it's too early to tell if it's working or not. For more on the disease, visit The ALS Association.
I added the ClustrMaps feature a couple of days ago, since we seemed to be getting loads of traffic from Central America and Japan, and I thought a visualization of our visitors would be helpful. Looks like we even have some European and Australian friends as well! No love from the former USSR though. Does anyone speak Russian? ;-)
I'm taking snapshots of the count every day, and I'm printing out the petition, just in case something awful happens to the servers. I can't thank you enough for all the shout-outs and postings that you have done. You see the results here, and it's truly incredible.
