"Fiver's Flamingos" Conquer Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon

(From the Fiver's Flamingos team captain, Janine Garner)
We raised over $2,600 for! :)

Many thanks to those of you who donated.

For those of you who would still like to, it's not too late to donate! You still can! :)

Well, I guess the Flamingo is out of the bag... we did have a Flamingo run with us, hehehehe.

Everyone yelled "GO FLAMINGO" as she ran by. Apparently a giant pink flamingo in the race was both unexpected and quite popular. :)

The race itself was a BLAST. We all started out as a group & ended as a group & got several pictures together throughout the race. As the race progressed we broke out into smaller groups of people with similar paces and then met up at the end and crossed the finish line together. It was AWESOME!

That said, we could NEVER have done it without our support crew, Ron, Christina, Sarah (THE GODDESS OF SPORTS MASSAGES!), and Jess' family. You guys are AWESOME!

So a big thanks goes out to the Fiver's Flamingos Marathon Team. Looks like everyone had a great time, and raised money for a great cause. Again, the ALS Association of Georgia does so much for us and for others suffering from ALS, they really are a lifesaver.

Fiver's Flamingos - Marathon for ALS

For those of you who don't know, some of Mel's friends did something amazing last year, and they are continuing it this weekend. I'll let Janine's telling of it stand, since I can't improve upon it:

So 4 of us did something spur of the moment in 2009, when we got together to run the Disney Princess ½ Marathon (13.1 miles) at Disney World. We made team jerseys with iron on letters, and dubbed ourselves “Fiver’s Flamingos” in honor of Mel, who loves both Flamingos and Disney more than anyone we know.

This year, we have teamed up with The ALS Association of Georgia to help raise some money to find both a cure and treatments for ALS, as we run the Disney Princess ½ Marathon again in March 2010.

Please, if you don’t mind, would you donate 1$ for every mile we are running? That would be 13.1 miles for $13.10. And even if all you have is $1 total, every little bit helps. Just click on the button, you don’t even need a paypal account to donate, just a credit card. 100% of your donation (minus the small fee paypal takes) goes to the ALS Association of Georgia. Not one penny goes towards administering this group or paying race fees, etc.

Donate via PayPal

The ladies run this weekend, so if you are able, why don't you *ahem* PONY... UP... the $13 and change, for a good cause?
